January is that time of year that we make resolutions, begin a diet, or start something new. This year I have decided to incorporate more spiritual development into my regular routine. How will I do that? Here is my beginning list to help me navigate the spiritual pathway for 2013.
- Take time and prioritize time for God
Just as I value my time with my wife and seek her presence, encouragement and guidance, how much greater and more wonderful is my time with my Heavenly Father?
- Wait and listen for God to speak
In other words, speak when spoken to. I want to hear the Lord speak into my life and personally respond because the sheep knows the shepherd's voice John 10:14-15.
- Pray for others
This year I desire to limit my prayer petitions for self and increase my intercession for others.“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people” 1 Timothy 2:1.
- Prayers that seek heavenly solutions to earthly situations
What will be the best remedy to my dilemmas that I encounter this year? “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” Matthew 6:10.
- Seek reflective moments in my prayers for self examination and repentance
Sometimes it is not easy to get it right, but I want to be transparent and honest with myself and others. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:9.
- Read the Bible thru during the year
There are many sources and guides that can help in this endeavor. My current method is Daily Audio Bible which is at www.dailyaudiobible.com . You can listen daily online or purchase an app for your smart phone.
- Read spiritual and meaningful books of contemporary and historical Christian authors
We can learn much from our forerunners of faith. Many Christian authors have expressed their joys on the faith pathway and dilemmas and solutions for the earthly highway bumps which they endured to gain the golden streets of heaven. A clue for getting a map is to ask your friends: “What have you read that strengthened your faith?”
I would like to start this year with the Lord and finish even stronger. Join me on the faith journey as we seek Him daily.
