Starbucks and Scriptures
I enjoy Starbucks. Many mornings on my commute to the office I drop by Starbucks for coffee or a breakfast item. I pay with a gift card. Over time I have discovered the gift cards have many colorful designs for seasonal or occasion celebrations, and I began collecting the cards. On my Smartphone I have the Starbucks app which allows me to access each gift card digitally. Why is this important? On the Starbuck website you can assign a nickname to each card. As I have done this, I have aligned the nickname of the cards with a scripture verse such as: (Occasional Cards) Thank You– We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you. Colossians 1:3; Congratulations-Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your lord. Matthew 25:23; Special Edition– This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24; (Seasonal Cards) Christmas– For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6; Valentine’s Day– We love because he first loved us. I John 4:19; Spring– Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2.
Each morning as I pay for my coffee, I recite the verse and pray the verse back to the Lord. As I prepare to pay with the digital gift card on my phone, I am able to see multiple scriptures and be reminded of my redeemer, savior, my awesome God. I am also reminded of the abiding love of Christ throughout the year. At a glance, I saw the summer, fall, winter, spring gift cards. That day I prayed: "God give me a hot heart for YOU. Please don't let my spiritual life to be dry or remain in a desert without you. As I see the changes in the fall of the year, change my heart to show more compassion to people and to be more consecrated to you. When the bleakness of winter arrives warm me with your presence and gently cut the dead wood from my life. Spring is transformational with new life and new colors. Father, transform me, encourage me, and direct me to make a difference in my world because I have been called and empowered by you. Thank you for your abiding love and help me as I live this day for you."
I have enjoyed my morning coffee and scripture together.
